Registration for the Winter 2010 season will open in September, 2010.
IMPORTANT REGISTRATION INFORMATION
- ALL players MUST be PROPERLY REGISTERED AND PAID. To be properly registered and paid you must:
- Complete the entire online registration form. Regardless of your payment method, all registrants must complete the online registration form.
- Make payment (scholarship players - please see Scholarship Information link on the left). The online registration system accepts credit cards. If you do not want to pay by credit card, please contact the Basketball commissioner, Catherine Gorham, at gorhamca@aol.com to find out how you can pay by check.
Note: ONLY the Basketball commissioner can accept checks. COACHES ARE NOT PERMITTED TO ACCEPT CHECKS FOR REGISTRATION PAYMENT.
- ONLY players who are PROPERLY REGISTERED AND PAID will be placed on a team. These are the ONLY players allowed to be on a court for practices or games.
Registration System
The online registration system allows both PC and Mac users to register using Visa or Mastercard. If you do not have access to the internet, you do not want to pay by credit card, or you have any questions or problems with the online registration system please contact the basketball
commissioner, Catherine Gorham, at gorhamca@aol.com and she will assist you with getting your child(ren) registered.
*Special Registration Note*
On the online registration form, you will be asked to ’Choose a Program’ (ie: choose the sport) you are registering your child for. For the Basketball Program, depending on your date of birth, you may have two choices: ’BASKETBALL FOR HIGH SCHOOL AGE’ or ’BASKETBALL’. If your child will be playing in one of the high school age groups, Boys 14-15, Boys 16-18, or Girls 14 - 18, please choose ’BASKETBALL FOR HIGH SCHOOL AGE’ when registering your child. If they will be playing in any other age group (middle and elementary school age groups), please choose ’BASKETBALL’ when registering your child. If you need help, please contact gorhamca@aol.com.
Cost
$75 registration fee.
$15 discount for second basketball player in family.
$20 additional discount for third basketball player in family.
$5.50 Fairfax County Field Use Fee per registrant.
Volunteer Opt Out Fee
If you do not volunteer for at least one of the volunteer positions, you will be assessed a $50 volunteer opt out fee. Volunteer Options include: Coach, Assistant Coach, Boys Commissioner, Girls Commissioner, League Manager, Registration Assistance, Team Sponsor, Scorekeeper, Time Keeper, and Picture Day Coordinator, Communications/Web Site, and Fundraising Coordinator.
Late Fee
$40 late fee per registrant starts:
- November 1, 2010 for everyone except High School age registrants
Late registrants are NOT guaranteed placement on a team.
House League
Girls Age Groups: 7, 8-9, 10-11, 12-13, 14-18*
Boys Age Groups: 7, 8-9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14-15*, 16-18*
*denotes high school age groups. Registration late fees, tryouts**, practices, games, etc start later than other age groups.
**Boys 14-15 Age Group tryouts are in early November; Boys 16-18 and Girls 14-18 are in December.
Participation:
- Each child, with the exception of the Girls 14-18, Boys 14-15, and Boys 16-18 age groups, will play a MINIMUM OF TWO COMPLETE QUARTERS EVERY GAME.
Tryouts:
- Will be held the first two weeks in November for all age groups except Girls 14-18 and Boys 16-18. See the tryouts schedule (found under the House League Tryout Schedule link on the left) for the exact dates and times for your child.
- All participants MUST attend a tryout.
- All participants MUST be properly registered, including payment of all fees, before attending a tryout.
- Girls 14-18 tryouts will be in mid-December, after the High School’s Freshman and JV teams have been selected. The schedule of exact dates and times will be posted when available.
- Boys 14-15 tryouts will be in early November (see House League Tryout Schedule link on the left) and their draft will be after the High School coaches have named their teams.
- Boys 16 -18 tryouts are in early December (see House League Tryout Schedule link on the left).
Practices & Games:
- Practices will start on December 1, 2010 (for all age groups except the High School Age groups). During December there are two practices per week: one during the week and the second on Saturday.
- Games start in January (for all age groups except the High School Age groups). Most games are held on Saturdays, with a few games scheduled during the week or on Sunday afternoon.
- Games for Boys 16-18 will start in December 2010.
- Game start date for Girls 14-18 and Boys 14-15 age groups will be posted when available.
County Select Teams
Girls Age Groups: 10, 11, 12, 14
Boys Age Groups: 10, 11, 12, 13
Selection to a County Select team is based on ability, willingness to contribute to the team, and attitude.
Participation:
- As these are select teams, THERE IS NO MINIMUM PLAYING TIME REQUIREMENT (as there is in the House League).
Tryouts:
- All those interested in participating on a County team MUST ATTEND A TRYOUT.
- All participants MUST be properly registered, including payment of all fees, before attending a tryout.
- County Select Team tryouts begin October 1, 2009, with most teams selected by October 15, 2010. See the tryouts schedule (found under the County Select Clinic and Tryout Schedule link on the left) for the exact dates and times for your child.
Games:
- Select teams play a 14 game season starting December 1, 2010. Traditionally, ages 11 and under play games on Saturdays. Ages 12 and older will have week day games.
Refunds
FHYAA now requires that a $25 administration fee be charged for all refunds. Total amount of refund is determined on a case by case basis.
