CONTACT US

We are a youth rugby club established in 2006, offering a summer (May-August) recreational/instructional season of touch and tackle rugby for boy and girl players age 7-17, and a Spring (February-May) program of U-19/ high school tackle rugby for boys and girls 14-18.

Fort Hunt Eagles Rugby Football Club, Summer 2011

Our purpose is to introduce kids--and parents--to the lifetime sport of Rugby Union Football, an oustanding and immensely fun sport to play and to watch that offers improved fitness and teaches decision-making, teamwork, comraderie, controlled and focused touch and tackle contact, in an environment of competition, tradition, sportsmanship and respect for teammates, opponents, and officials.

Practice/Field Status
...are we go or not?

Date:  Tuesday, 15 May

Status: GO

Training is at Fort Hunt Park, and in the event of dangerous weather, we will take shelter in the main pavilion.  Conditions will be wet, so dress appropriately.

We will make a weather call for training every day no later than 3:00pm for high school and 5:00pm for summer players.  Always assume training is on; we will send out a notice only if practice is canceled.  Notices will be sent via email, posted immediately above, and will be on the club Facebook page.

Bring water! A single-serving water bottle is not sufficient--you should bring at least 24 ounces.

Weather Note: Parents, if you see lightning/hear thunder at home, we’re seeing and hearing the same thing at practice, so we will call off practice on weather/safety grounds, and it’s time to come and pick up your player. Rest assured, we coaches will never leave a player behind--we always will wait with all players until everyone is picked up and accounted for.

Always assume practice is on. Yes, we practice and play in the rain (depending on field status); this is rugby, after all.

Check out the current and forecasted meteorological situation at WJLA weather.

Players, parents, and coaches, check out these IRB videos from their Rugby Ready series: http://www.irbrugbyready.com/index.php?section=3

You can also get yourself a profile, sign in, and take the Rugby Ready course.  It’s easy, fun, has videos to watch, and is a great way to become familiar with the game and start down the path as a coaching volunteer.

HOT NEWS
...the latest and greatest

Here is some feedback our program received last summer, from another Rugby Virgina youth coach:

"After getting caught up in the waiver 'controversy' that left me a bit unsettled as well as the 'competitive nature' of the tournament, it is refreshing to know that a club like Fort Hunt exists.   Fort Hunt instills the true spirit of rugby for these young players.   As [your program has] said before, it’s about having fun, playing hard on the pitch, and getting together afterward in a show of respect to each team.   I wish the tournament became a day of rugby matches, at least at the U-13 level.   Each team gets some matches, we enjoy the rugby camaraderie, and we all go home on a positive note.  Seeing the boys play the game as it should be played is all I need as a coach.

"I wanted to drop you this note to let you know that after being involved with youth rugby for a few years, Fort Hunt continues to do youth rugby right.   I look forward to seeing Fort Hunt on the schedule because I know the players are great kids, the coaches are admirable, and the parents are respectful to the game and the opponents.

"Good luck keeping a great program going..."

Thank you!  This is Fort Hunt Rugby, and we're proud to be a part of it.

Remembering Coach Dave Poulin
...one of our most dedicated coaches

Veteran Fort Hunt Rugby Coach and dad Dave Poulin passed away unexpectedly on 25 August 2009, and we still miss his enthusiasm and dedication; he was a crucial part of our program in its early years.
