Youth touch rugby, which for is 11-and-unders and 9-and-unders, is a coed sport. Boys and girls play together on the same team.
Our experience over four summers is that boys and girls play very well together, with team leaders emerging from both boys and girls, with equal respect from their opposites. The coaching staff has and will continue to foster this, and we have found this to be easy to accomplish.
Tackle rugby, however, is gender-specific, with our league’s regulation and those of higher ogranizations prohibiting girls and boys to play tackle together. At this time, Fort Hunt Rugby is lookig to establish a girls tackle program, for Summer 2010, most likely at the 13-15 level. Ladies, please get out there and get your players together. If we are unable to field our own girls tackle team(s), we will work with girl players to find a local club for them to play touch or tackle rugby.
