Andy Vonada, Commissioner and Girls High School Coach: Andy founded the Fort Hunt Rugby program in 2006 and now serves as the FHYAA Rugby Commissioner and high school girls coach. He is a retired Marine Corps officer and has lived in the Fort Hunt community since 2002. Andy played for numerous military and civilian rugby clubs throughout his career and while stationed in Japan, South America, North Carolina and here in the metro-DC area (to include Quantico RFC and West Potomac RFC). He long has been active in youth sports and has coached his daughters’ youth soccer teams with LMVSA and Marine Corps Community Services programs overseas. From 2007 to 2010 he was the head coach for the TC Williams HS Girls Rugby Club. Andy holds USA Rugby Coaching certifications for both Level 1 and Level 2, and has refereed with the Potomac Rugby Referees Society.
John Dacey, Head Coach: John is a Fort Hunt Rugby dad and has been head coach of Fort Hunt Rugby since we began in 2006. He is a retired
Army officer who in the Fort Hunt community has coached ten seasons of girls soccer in LMVSA, and has been a leader in Scouting since 2004. He's been a member of the FHYAA Board since 2009. He has played rugby since 1981, starting at Washington University in St. Louis. He’s played for the Washington University Banshees, Fort Sill (OK) Gunners, Baumholder (Germany) Highlanders, Heidelberg Black Sheep, the President’s XV, Heidelberger Turnverein, Heidelberger Ruderklub, the US Forces Europe Select XV, the All-US Army team, Sierra Vista/Fort Huachuca (AZ) Desert Legion, Tacoma (WA) Nomads, Fort Lewis Stud Dawgs, Combined Old Boys Rugby Association (Malaysia), the Malaysian Ministry of Defense Old Boys, JICPAC Juggernauts (Hawaii), and currently is playing as an old boy with the Alexandria Roosters. He has refereed in Europe and the US as a C1 ref, and is a past member of the British Army Rugby Union Referees Society and the Pacific Northwest Rugby Referees Society, and is currently a member of the Potomac Society of Rugby Football Referees. He currently is the chairman of the Rugby Virgnia Laws committee. He has been a rugby administrator since 1988, as President of the Baumholder Highlanders, President of the Sierra Vista Desert Legion, President of the US Forces Europe Rugby Union in 1988 and 1989, and as a director of the US Army rugby program from 1987 to 1991. He has coached the Baumholder Highlanders, Sierra Vista/Fort Huachuca Desert Legion, JICPAC Juggernauts, and the University of Arizona Women, and received his USA Rugby certification for Introducing Rugby/Level 1 in 2007, re-certified at Level 1 in November 2010, and certified at Level 2 in February 2011. He is a member of the US Rugby Football Foundation and the Positive Coaching Alliance.
David Hughes, 9-and-Under/11-and-Under Coach: David, a Fort Hunt Rugby dad, spent most of his early life overseas and began playing
rugby in the Bahamas as a member of Bailou Rugby Football Club in Nassau. At 16, he was the youngest player in the Bahamas Rugby Football Union, and played in a number of international matches. David went on to play rugby at the University of Virginia for four years until a knee injury ended his rugby career in 1984. He returned to rugby when his son, James, began playing 11-U touch in 2009. David currently plays for the Alexandria Roosters RFC and is the club match secretary. He has experience at wing, flanker, hooker and now prop. David is USA Rugby certified at Level 1. David is also an avid living historian, having re-enacted the American Civil War, World War One, and currently the British Army to 1987. David has been an extra in a number of Civil War and WWI productions. He is a board member for the Potomac Celtic Alliance, which each year produces the Potomac Celtic Festival in Leesburg Virginia, and is also the living history coordinator for that event. He is also a committee member for Cub Scout Pack 876 in the Mount Vernon area. Professionally, David is currently a bus driver for Fairfax County Public Schools. He is also an avid photographer.
Dale Roach, Summer Tackle and Boys High School Coach: Dale is a Fort Hunt Rugby dad and has been a coach with Fort Hunt Rugby since 2007. He has played rugby since 1981, starting with his college side and playing for various men’s clubs over the years. He played for Wake Forest University for five years and was the captain of the WFU team in his senior year. Dale is certified for coaching at USA Rugby Level 1. Dale is active in the Fort Hunt community through his coaching and mentoring efforts:

Layton Golding, Assistant Coach: Layton is a Fort Hunt Rugby dad, has been a Fort Hunt Rugby as
sistant coach since 2008 and is a Mount Vernon area native. He has played rugby since 1979 with several local and regional Division 1 teams, starting at Mount Vernon High School and the PRU U-19 Select XV. He has played for Old Dominion University RFC, Norfolk Blues RFC, Charlotte RFC as both a player and back row coach, NCRFU Select XV, ERU South Select XV, UNC Charlotte RFC as captain and team founder, Northern Virginia RFC, and is currently with the Alexandria Roosters RFC. His long-term rugby goal is to help re-establish area high school rugby to the glory that was the Mount Vernon and Fort Hunt High School rugby clubs. He is certified at Level 1 with USA Rugby.
Steve Jenning, Tackle Coach:
Allie Bowman: Allie joined Fort Hunt Rugby as a coach in Summer 2010, and is certified at USA Rugby Level 1. She is the assistant coach for the girls high school team and the summer girls 13-17 tackle team.
Joe Caridi: Joe joined Fort Hunt Rugby as a coach in late 2010. Joe grew up in the Fort Hunt Area.
As a youth he played baseball, basketball and soccer in FHYAA. He attended West Potomac High School and played football and competed in power-lifting, making the All-District, All-Region and All-State football teams in his senior year as an offensive lineman. He attend Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, and began playing VCU rugby his freshman year. Joe played at VCU from Fall 2002 to 2007. During that time he served as the club Match Secretary, Vice President, and Team Captain from Fall 2003 to Spring 2007. During his time at VCU he helped lead the team to the D-III Collegiate Virginia State Championship, and Mid-Atlantic Rugby Football Union Championship. After graduating from VCU, Joe spent some time playing with the Richmond Lions men’s club, and helped coach the VCU team as a scrum and lineout coach. This past year Joe moved back to Northern Virginia for work. He is currently still involved with the VCU men’s club as their Match Secretary and as a member of the Alumni Committee, the VCU Rugby Old Boys.
Vivian Cocca: Vivian is a new addition to Fort Hunt Rugby leadership, and is USA Rugby certified at Level 1. Vivian first learned rugby while attending the University of California at Santa Barbara. Her ROTC instructor had just returned from a tour in England and wished to pass on his passion for the game, which he did! After a five-year active duty tour in the Army, Vivian ended up in Dallas, Texas where she played a bit with the Texas Harlequins, but a job offer in Washington DC led her to the Washington DC Furies Rugby Club. For the next five years, she played with the Furies as winger, then center, ending up at flyhalf. She also played a few games in the position of hooker; her experience as part of the front row gave her unlimited respect for the hard-working pack. Vivian also played a as part of the US Combined Services Rugby team as fullback. Most recently, she took up with an "old girls’ side and played in the DC Ruggerfest as winger. When not coaching, Vivian works as a national security consultant and teaches an adult fitness (boot camp) class in Northwest DC five days a week. Her goals as a coach are to: 1) maintain the spirit of the game; and 2) ensure players have the knowledge, skills and ability to play good rugby.

Bill Galway: Bill began playing rugby at Longwood University in 1980 and served two years as team president. In subsequent years he played for CW Post, St John’s University, the US Merchant Marine Academy and Hospital for Special Surgery / Cornell Med Alumni games. He has coached youth league football and soccer. A portion of his rugby sports medicine experiences have included New York Rugby Club, New York Rugby 7s tournaments, English Rugby School (US Tours), ERU vs. Scotland and Stony Brook Collegiate Spring Rugby tournaments.
Bill is a Fort Hunt Rugby dad, and is also helping the club as a trainer. He is a USA Rugby-certified coach at Level 1.
Katrina Romain: Katrina is new to Fort Hunt Rugby. She is a former Penn State rugby player, and is a certified USA Rugby Level 1 coach.
Chris Murray: Chris is a Fort Hunt Rugby dad, and a new addition to the coaching team in 2011.
