High School Rugby
We will open registration for Spring 2012 in January 2012.
Tentative registration fee for Spring 2012 is $140.00. This increase is to cover replacement of equipment lost due to abuse and negligence, and to cover home-game socials.
Registration also requires a separate registration with USA Rugby for $30, which includes $20 for USA Rugby and $10 for Rugby Virginia. This registration remains valid for any player also playing summer rugby.
Registration for Spring 2012 also will require a current VHSL physical exam.
Summer Recreational Rugby
The cost for Summer 2012 tentatively will be $120.00. This increase is due mainly to cover USA Rugby certification training for our coaches, replacement of gear lost due to abuse and negligence, and to cover home-game socials.
Players who play high school rugby will have to pay only $75 for summer rugby; you will receive a rebate from the club after paying the standard $100.
Fort Hunt Youth Rugby offers a 12-week summer recreational rugby season (over 60 hours or practice, 16+ hours of matches and two days of tournaments), as well as a season-unique, for-keeps club jersey, in return for your registration fee.
We offer fun and exciting practices and matches in a program run by highly experienced rugby players, referees, administrators and nationally certified coaches.
We realize players and parents have many youth sports choices, and we’re thrilled you’ve chosen Fort Hunt Rugby. Thank you.
I would like assistance with paying the fee...
No problem; scholarships are available. Please go through the registration process step by step, so that the player’s name is fully registered, and will be in the system. When you get to the portion for payment, stop at that point, and notify Coach Dacey or Coach Vonada, and we will complete the scholarship registration process for you.
How do we register?
A credit card is required for online registration.
Can I register manually/in person?
Of course. Please contact our commissioner, Andy Vonada at alvonada@hotmail.com, 703-360-1534. We will accept cash or a check.
When can we register?
High school registration for 2012 will open in January. Summer 2012 registration will open in March.
When does registration close?
High school registration for Spring 2012 will close in May.
Summer registration will close registration by the end of June. Exceptions will be made on a case-by-case basis. A $10 late fee is in effect after 15 June.
What is the registration fee?
Summer 2011 is $120 (tentative).
High school players who play in the summer will only have to pay $75; you will receive a rebate after paying the standard $100.
All players also must register separately and on their own with USA Rugby. This costs $20. High school players already registered with USA Rugby who play summer rugby will not have to do this registration again.
What do I get for this registration fee?
For the high school program, there are no "keeper" items that players receive from the club. The increased fee is due to the club’s executive decision to have tackle rugby coaches certified officially and nationally, and the need for funds to pay for coaches to attend training sessions.
For the summer program, all players receive a for-keeps club jersey. The jersey is redesigned each year, so every jersey is unique and distinct. The 2011 jersey is the first major re-design since the club’s 2006 founding.
How many can register?
There is no limit to the number of players we can have, high school or summer. No player is ever wait-listed for rugby. There are no tryouts—everyone makes the team, and everyone plays in every match.
For high school, there is one boys team and one girls team. There are no tryouts--everyone makes the team. There are 22 competitive slots for the A side, and all other players will play, on the B side. For summmer, every player will play in every game, regardless of experience or skill.
What if I live in Alexandria, or somewhere else outside Fairfax County?
Anyone from anywhere can play rugby with us, the more the merrier. But, for players who live outside Fairfax County, specifically any coming from Arlington County or Alexandria City, Fairfax County requires an offset fee for the use of Fairfax County fields. This fee is $30 per player, in addition to the $120 registration fee; this is valid for both high school and summer.
Can I get a refund?
In almost all circumstances, yes. This usually will be pro-rated based on the amount of time the player has engaged in the season. Contact Commissioner Andy Vonada at alvonada@hotmail.com, 703-360-1534.
