Fort Hunt Rugby Bill of Rights
This Bill of Rights is for all Fort Hunt Rugby players, coaches, administrators and parents/spectators, for the benefit all involved in our program.
Fort Hunt Rugby players have a right to:
- Train in and play rugby matches in a positive, safe and healthy environment.
- Be coached by experienced, technically qualified and officially certified adults who emphasize fun, social interaction, respect and sportsmanship, teamwork and skill development over winning.
- Be coached by adults who are supportive and patient, who take the time to work with each player regardless of experience or ability, and who allow players to make mistakes.
- Play in games and receive equal possible playing time, regardless of playing ability (summer program).
- An equal opportunity to strive for success.
- Be treated with dignity and respect.
- Report to any coach or administrator any physical pain, emotional concerns or questions without fear of rejection or ridicule.
- Oppose team and club authority through appropriate channels when any of these principles are not met.
- To hold the coaching staff to the Fort Hunt Rugby Coaches Code of Conduct.
Fort Hunt Rugby parents have a right to:
- Be treated with respect and common courtesy at all times.
- Be informed about team and organizational activities as soon as such information is available.
- Due process in a formalized forum which allows a complaint/appeals process, within Fort Hunt Rugby and FHYAA.
- Expect reasonable responses to reasonable requests.
- Request and receive honest information at any time about their player’s behavior, progress and potential.
- Expect coaches to act with maturity and judgment, and to act as role models at all times.
- Expect organization and structure, and to hold the coaching staff to the Fort Hunt Rugby Coaches Code of Conduct.
Fort Hunt Rugby spectators have a right to:
- Enjoy a rugby event in a healthy, safe and supportive environment.
- Receive information from the club about club events and matches.
- Ask questions freely of coaches and officials.
Coaches have a right to expect Fort Hunt Rugby players to:
- Eagerly participate in Fort Hunt Rugby training and matches.
- Pay attention to and give proper respect to the coaching staff and officials in training and in matches.
- Arrive on time to practices and games, with required equipment and clothing, and follow preparation instructions.
- Provide timely notice when a player cannot attend training or a match.
- Inform the coaching staff immediately when there is an injury.
- Follow the Fort Hunt Rugby Players’ Code of Conduct.
Coaches have a right to expect parents/spectators to:
- Serve as adult role models to all players.
- Volunteer for the benefit of the team or club.
- Provide transportation to and from training and matches, or assist in arranging collective transportation.
- Deliver to and pick up their player(s) on time for training and matches.
- Speak up directly and with maturity and courtesy about things that are bothering them.
- Be supportive of all players (of both teams), regardless of their performance, and refrain from being critical or abusive toward any player, coach or referee.
- Shout only positive, supportive comments at games.
- Follow the Fort Hunt Rugby Parent/Spectator Code of Conduct.
