Rugby Game Day Messages and Info
...what's happening, and where

This is where we will put all game day info and instructions for upcoming matches (the same info sent out to the club via email, and also posted to the club blog and the club Facebook page).  This info also will be available on the calendar.


                               Fort Hunt Rugby Game Day: Rugby VA Touch/Tackle Tournaments, 30-31 July

Our last outing of the year will be Rugby VA tournaments this weekend..

Reminder: All players participating in the tournament must have completed and turned in to Coach Dacey the following:
USA Rugby registration
USA Rugby minor (Under-18) waiver
Rugby Virginia waiver
VA Commonwealth Games waiver

The touch tournament will be on Saturday, 30 July.
The tackle tournament will be on Sunday, 31 July.

Saturday
The 11s’ first match is at 9:00am on Field 2.
The 9s’ first match is at 10:30am on Field 4.
Both teams have at least two matches, and will play more games if they win.
Coaches Goldings, Hughes and Long will be in charge of the 9s and 11s..

Sunday
The 13s play at 9:00am on Field 2.
The 15s play at 10:30am on Field 4.
Both teams have at least two matches, and will play more games if they win.
Coach Dacey will be in charge of the 13s. Coach Roach will be in charge of the 15s.

All play is scheduled to be complete by 5:00pm each day. If we lose, we will be done more quickly. For players who want additional playing time, touch or tackle, there will be ample opportunities to play with other clubs.

Bring sunscreen, chairs, blankets and canopies. The club will have a cooler with water. Concessions, tournament t-shirts, and rugby equipment will be available for purchase.

Games

       9-U: away v. Prince William (Nokesville)
          kickoff: 10:00am

       11-U: away v. Prince William

          Kickoff: 11:00am

       Coaches Goldings, Hughes and Long will be in charge of the 9s and 11s.

        13-U: away v. Chantilly

          kickoff: 9:00am
          Coach Dacey will be in charge of the 13s.

       15-U: away v. BRYC (Braddock Road)

          kickoff: 9:30am
          Coach Roach will be in charge of the 15s.

       Girls tackle: no game (flaking opponents)

Showtime for all players is no later than 30 minutes prior to scheduled kickoff.

Players who are early or on time usually start, and have a much greater say in which positions they will play.  Players who are late will wait.

Uniform/Equipment

Game uniform is rugby boots, black socks (or team colored socks), black rugby shorts and team jersey.

Tackle players are required to have a personally fitted mouthguard.
Prohibited items: watches, necklaces, bracelets, earrings, anything in pockets, wristbands or

headbands, braces with hard plastic or metal, shorts with zippers/buckles/straps/belts, any form of eyeglasses (touch players may wear sports goggles).

Player Nutritional Preparation

The weather will still be very hot, so players MUST hydrate well before the match, starting at least two hours prior with moderate water intake.

Players should prepare themselves for the exertion of rugby--touch or tackle--prior to arriving at the field.

Players should properly hydrate, drinking ample water in the morning before the match.

Players should eat well prior to playing, having a reasonable and nutritious breakfast not within two hours of playing.  Good food to eat is milk/cereal, peanut butter, and bananas.

 

For all three venues, bring chairs, blankets and sun canopies.

Players should apply athletic-strength sunscreen prior to arriving at the field.
